Samuel L. Jackson and Wu-Tang rapper/producer The RZA have signed on for a remake for the 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon.
Jackson will play the role of one of the film's most memorable characters "Sho'nuff, the Shogun of Harlem." Jackson says the decision to play the iconic villain was a no brainer.
"I'm a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho'nuff into the 21st century," Jackson said to The Hollywood Reporter. The original film, produced by Berry Gordy, centered on Leroy Green and his quest to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, The Last Dragon, to which only those who make it to this level earn the coveted Glow, allowing them to defeat anyone.
Berry Gordy's son, Kerry Gordy, is set to follow in his father's large footsteps to produce the remake.
"We're thrilled to be working with Kerry Gordy as he continues his father's legacy," Columbia president Doug Belgrad said. "[He] will capture everything that people love about the original while also bringing a fresh edge to the remake."
At press time, the release date for the film was not known.
