Detroit's infamous and trifling "hip hop" mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick has been ordered to a county jail by a federal judge for a bond violation last month. According to The New York Times, Judge Ronald Giles made the decision earlier today (August 7) after it was discovered that the “Hip-Hop Mayor” recently traveled to Canada without court approval late July. This decision makes the mayor, currently in the midst of perjury allegations and felony charges, the first in Detroit’s history to be ordered to jail while still in office.
Despite an apology and claiming to never make the same mistake twice, Giles told the political figure his duty to apply fairness in his ruling. “If it was not Kwame Kilpatrick sitting in that seat,” he began, “if it was John Six Pack sitting in the seat—what would I do?”
It is likely that the mayor will spend a minimum of one evening in jail but should be released after posting $75,000 bail. What the hell are they waiting on to get this dude out of office? I understand that there are some bureaucratic issues to be meated out, but damn! What else is he going to be able to get away with?
