About an hour ago, a judge in the Manhattan Criminal Court sentenced Remy Ma (Remy Smith or Remy Mackie<----Papoose's last name) to 8 years in prison for first degree-assault, attempted coercion and criminal weapons charges.
Before her sentence was handed down, Remy made a statement to try to plead her case to the judge. "I stand here today as Remy Mackie," she said with tears in her eyes, referring to Papoose's last name. "I'm a loving wife, mother and loving daughter and loving sister to my brothers and sisters." She also made a statement of apology to the victim Makeda Barnes, "I apologize for not saving you from your physical and mental scars." The judge thought that Remy seemed to be a very loving and charitable young woman but felt that it's not about those things this time. It's about Remy being responsible for her actions and up until this incident, she was not. Thus resulting in the sentence that she was given today.
Remy Ma and rapper Papoose were set to get married while she waited for her sentencing but it was called off by jail officials because Papoose had a handcuff key on him. Remy's attorney says that it was not for handcuffs. Soooooooo, what was it? Oh wait... I'm sure it was supposed to symbolize Remy having the key to his heart! Yeah... let that be the reason!
