Commons Covers 944 Mag

Chi-Town rapper Common covers the October 08 issue of 944 magazine with the caption "RUNNING FOR OFFICE"... suuuhweet!

Check out what Common had to say on what he thinks of Barack Obama:

Why do you support Barack Obama? After all, he’s politician, too.

On a practical level, we’re dealing with a lot of hard times and struggles. I see Barack Obama as a beacon of light because, more than anything, I see him promoting love. Of course he’s a politician, working within a system, but he’s been able to show us that we can’t be caught up with old prejudices or focus so much on negative things. I believe that this guy is gonna do right for us because he’s paying attention to middle-and-lower-class people, to-black and Latino, so-called minorities.

Kevin Powell Loses Bid For Congress

Kevin Powell, the author, activist, journalist and one of the original cast members of MTV's The Real World, lost the race to represent Brooklyn's 10th Congressional District to incumbent Congressman Edolphus "Ed" Towns.

Powell won endorsements from the likes of Dave Chappelle [click to read], Afeni Shakur and activist Gloria Steinem, but lost to Towns in last week's Democratic primary. Powell received 33 percent of the vote while Towns received 67 percent.

In addition to his own published non-fiction works, Powell contributed to Vibe, Esquire and other publications. The self-proclaimed "Hip Hop historian" more closely resembled his Brooklyn constituency, which has a median income of $30,212. In a prepared statement Powell thanked all his supporters, continued his critique of Towns and promised to run for the Congressional seat again in 2010.

"We know the people of neighborhoods like East New York, Bed-Stuy, Fort Greene, Midwood, and Williamsburg deserve representation that is accessible, visible, and reliable on a consistent basis," said Powell. "Mr. Towns has a history of only helping selected areas and groups in the district, the people he knows are most likely to vote on primary day every two years because he caters to them only."

Halle Berry Supports Barack

Halle Berry was spotted out at the Century City mall showing major support for Barack Obama. Halle is just one of the masses of individuals have have expressed their support for the Senator on clothing. Alicia Keys, Will.I.Am, Kim Kardashian, Hill Harper, and many many others offer much support by tee images. I'm just praying that someone doesn't get a little too creative on us and plaster Obama's face on their behind.... Damn! Did I say that out loud. I hope I just didn't birth a brain child in someone's head!

Obama's Prayers To God Intercepted By Idiots!

When I read this the other day, I said I wasn't going to post it, but then I thought, why not? Why not show America how low people will stop when it comes to stopping the inevitable.

As you all know, presidential hopeful Barack Obama was in Jeruselum last week and before he left, he and his campaign team made a pre-dawn stop at Jeruselums famous Western Wall. Obama placed a prayer he had written in the wall and bowed his head while a rabbi read a psalm calling for peace in the holy city. One worshipper chanted "Obama, Jerusalem is not for sale" and "Jerusalem is our land" as the Illinois senator stood at the wall, a relic of the ancient Jewish temple destroyed during Roman rule nearly 2,000 years ago.

Of course the visit was a public event. Obama offered to partake in the tradition of the Wall and place a prayer into its cracks. But once he took off the requisite skullcap and left, an imbasile pulled a folded piece of paper from a crevice in the ancient wall and offered it to the mass-circulation daily Maariv, which is a Hebrew language newspaper. The paper then published Obamas private note in it's paper on Friday under the headline "Obama's note," provoked a storm of criticism in Israel over an intrusion into his relationship with God.

Dag on right it's an intrusion!!! And how dare this paper publish something so private! This man was offering a prayer to the Lord to give him wisdom and guidance and to protect his family and that prayer was intercepted by people who hate him? For what? Did they think he was going to offer a violent prayer of death and damnation on Isreal? People never cease to amaze me!

David Banner Comes To Jesse Jackson's Defense... Sort Of

Despite his dislike for the man, David Banner has somewhat come to terms with the demeaning comments that Jesse Jackson made in regards to Presidential hopeful Barack Obama a few weeks ago. Banner has long been a staunch critic of both Jesse Jackson and Al Shapton. Calling on both leaders to start making a change in the lives of todays youth, instead of constantly trying to tear them down. This time, he seems to be pushing for everyone to let Jesse be.

“My feelings about [Jackson] as a person won’t change until he changes and who knows if that’ll happen,” Banner said during an interview with EUR Web, “but we should move on and not worry about his comments. We concentrate on such trivial things that are not even important. We’re at war. We’re in a recession. Jesse Jackson said something. He doesn’t literally want to cut off [Obama’s] nuts. He didn’t know the mic was on. Ok, let’s stay focused. I can honestly say that white media does that to us and we bite the hook every time.”

David didn't stop there, he went on to say; “To me, Jesse Jackson is irrelevant. Nobody in our generation really pays attention to him. As far as we’re concerned, he should be able to say whatever he wants to and we just move on.”

Nas Joins Picket Of Fox News

Nas will join the members of two political organizations, Color of Change and Move On tomorrow (July 23) in delivering a petition to Fox News' New York office.

The petition demands that the television company discontinue attacking black Americans, specifically Senator and Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his wife Michelle, via its news programs.

Over the last month, Color Of Change and Move On have collected more than 600,000 signatures via colorofchange.org. Drawing ammunition from incidents like Fox News referring to Mrs. Obama as a "baby mama," both organizations, along with Nas, will deliver the petition at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

I was one of the ones who signed said petition and I WISH I could be there for this event. I hate to say it... you know what... nevermind, I'm not going to say it. Positivity is what is needed in our society now. There is too much negative thinking, actions, words, emotions, etc... flowing through the air and if we all pull all of our positive energy to the forefront, we can do anything!!!! Use your powers for good... not evil!

Kevin Powell Is Running For Congress?

I'm sure most of you may not have a clue as to who Kevin Powell is, but I damn sure do. Kevin was one of the very first cast mates on MTV's Real World New York. He was very politically aware then, and I see he hasn't changed. Kev is running as the Democratic candidate for a congressional seat for the United States Congress in the 10th Congressional District here in Brooklyn, New York. I am so proud of him for this. It's not often at all that you see reality stars who make a difference instead of continuing to make a fool of themselves. You Go Boy!
