Fashion Must & Must Not's For 2009!!!!

Since it is the beginning of a new year, and a new era in our nations history, that has inspired many of us in the realms of hope and change. Most of you have created your list of new years resolutions ranging from losing that excess weight, cutting back on/stopping smoking, to managing your finances a little better, or even getting more spiritually connected with who ever it is that deem the Most High. All of those things are fine and dandy, but let us not forget about those of you "fashionably challenged" folks out there. Some of you need some serious help. I ain't talkin psychological either. You have to remember that you don't know who you'll bump in to out on the street.

Let's be real folks; we've all slipped up and fallen victim to the fashion police at least once or twice in our lives by stepping out of the house looking like something that just rolled up out from under the bed, so yes... we all need a little bit of fashion help sometimes. we all need to take a few lessons from the book of style. That's why I've comprised a list of Fashion Must and Must Not's for the new year!

Must Not... wear leggings as pants, baring your cellulite riden ass for the whole world to see! Instead, pair leggings with casual dresses, or tunic-length shirts and sweaters. Enjoy the trend, but tastefully and in moderation.

Must Not... show panty lines, thongs, bra straps, or any other undergarments for that matter. Be a lady, and keep such personal information to yourself.

Must Not... buy clothing that you know is too damn small, under the pretense of losing weight to fit into it. Money spent today should be able to be used today. Besides, it’s not about the number or size on the garment, but rather the way it fits your body and makes you feel. A comfy 14 beats a too-tight 10 any day!

Must Not.... spend beyond your fashionable means. Meaning... don't go for broke trying to buy those $500 bag you been eyeing for the last few months. Heeeelloooo... it's been the last few months... so ummm... that means you can't afford them no way! Purchasing the hottest new “it” bag means nothing if you can’t afford to go out and be seen sporting it, or if it will make the rent or car note past due. A Birkin bag may be fly, but you sure can’t live in it!

Must... experiment fearlessly with bright colors and bold accessories. Spice up a simple black ensemble with a pair of turquoise flats, for example, or a stack of beaded bangles.

Must Not... fall victim to the trends, allowing the magazines and designers to dictate everything you wear and every piece you buy. Be yourself and wear what makes you feel most comfortable. Embrace your individuality!

Must Not... wear shoes and boots with leaned heels. Walking sideways is soooo not sexy!

Must Not... assume that we all are “Sasha Fierce.” Yes we all have fierce alter egos within us, but that doesn’t mean that we should show up at the club in a leotard or one piece with some pumps on! STOP THE MADNESS!

Must... understand the importance of appearance and how everything from your hair, makeup and the wrong accessories can destroy a great look. Make sure everything ties together PLEASE!

Must...
always take one good look at themselves in the mirror from head to toe before heading out the door. Whether it’s off to work, a date with a babe, the club, school, etc., for the next 365 days make sure it’s a look that isn’t going to garner you those side-eye stares. The goal is to just be you!

Fashion For Obama

If you've been following this years presidential campaign like more than half of the country has, then you've taken notice of all of the Obama paraphenalia that has made it's way into stores, closets, bumper stickers, pins, etc. Not only has the Obama camp taken the world by storm, but now, the folks working for the Ill. Senator as putting their hands forth to rub elbows with some of fashions hottest designers.

Long gone are the days of political campaigns settling for just an eye catching font on a tee and on those hidious ass trucker hats. Back then political paraphernalia was mostly about the message -- not the aesthetics.

Now, to a certain degree, it is enthusiastically and abundantly about style. The Obama campaign, which has been actively courting the fashion industry, has coordinated some 20 or so designers who are creating official merchandise for the candidate's Web site. It is the first time that a quorum of the fashion industry has organized its financial resources and creative energy around a single presidential candidate.

The mix, available online next month, ranges from T-shirts to tote bags and will lend a bit of runway panache to the Obama brand. The list of participating designers, which includes Derek Lam, Isaac Mizrahi, Tracy Reese, Charles Nolan and Diane von Furstenberg, covers the full spectrum of the market, from high-end to inexpensive. Other names have been bandied about but not confirmed: Beyoncé, Russell Simmons, Michael Bastian, Vera Wang.
