Ruben Studdard In Tax Trouble Too

No Ruben... everything is not a-ok for you buddy.

Ruben Studdard, 29, has a hefty tax debt of nearly $200K in unpaid taxes, reports the AP, citing court filings showing that the Feds and Alabama have placed liens on Studdard's property.

It seems the singer has a problem with unpaid income taxes for 2003 and 2005, but his Birmingham attorney, Byron Perkins, told the Birmingham News that his client has the dough to pay. Ruben was named "Idol" in 2003, just edging out Clay Aiken for the title.

Alabama developer John Elkington is wondering if the liens on Studdard's goods will affect Ruben's six-figure investment in a Birmingham club expected to bear his name.

Bobby Brown Is Back... In Court

Triple B is back. Bobby Barisford Brown is back in court. This time, he's being sued by his divorce attorneys for allegedly failing to pay a $90,217 in legal expenses which covered his fight with Whitney Houston.

Filed in an L.A. Superior Court on last Friday (August 15), the complaint from law firm Phillips, Lerner, Lauzon & Jamra, claims Brown signed a written agreement stipulating that in the event of a dispute over fees, he would submit to binding arbitration to resolve the matter. The lawyers claimed to have notified Brown on numerous occasions, most recently in a letter dated June 29, that he was past due in paying the balance legal services rendered during the dissolution of his marriage, including interest on the balance. Bobby has yet to answer any of those letters.

The suit seeks a court order forcing the entertainer and sometime reality star to enter into binding arbitration with either the Beverly Hills or Los Angeles bar association to settle the bill.

Bill Passes In The Wake Of Dr. Donda West

Since the death of rap superstar Kanye West’s mother, Dr. Donda West, The California Senate has been prompted with the approval of a new bill requiring hospital patients to take a physical exam, before having elective cosmetic surgery.

The LA Times reports the California Senate passed the requirement on Wednesday (August 13) with a vote of 37 to 1. According to Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles), the measure, known as AB 2968, was in response to Donda West’s passing. The former educator/author died last year from complications related to cosmetic surgery.

Earlier this year, Donda West’s niece, Yolanda Anderson, and California state Assembly-woman Wilmer Amina Carter (D-Rialto) introduced AB 2968 into the state’s legislature. For Ridley-Thomas, the tragedy comes as a wake-up call for patients and their families to take steps to ensure a safe medical experience.

"Many of us are concerned about the quality of care extended to those who receive elective surgery," the senator told the Times. Donda West’s family believes that coronary artery disease would have been discovered with a physical exam. A coroners report found that heart disease and clogged arteries also played a role in the scholar’s death.

Since West’s death, lawmakers and physicians around the country have lobbied for more restrictions for patients undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Naomi Campbell Pleads Guilty!

Uber prima donna, Naomi Campbell was in a London court today to answer for her pending charges. The supermodel pleaded guilty to assaulting two police officers after a dispute broke out over her luggage at a Heathrow airport.

Campbell admitted to four of the six charges, and the Crown Prosecution Service, agreed to drop the remaining two. She also pleaded guilty to one count of using threatening language toward the crew and a charge of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment.

Campbell, who was traveling to Los Angeles, was among passengers caught up in the chaos that marked Terminal 5's first 12 days of operation. Problems with the baggage-handling system and employee familiarization forced British Airways to cancel more than 600 flights after the building opened on March 27. After passengers on her flight were told the plane would depart without some of their bags, Campbell asked the cabin crew to determine whether her luggage was aboard. Campbell became abusive when the captain went into the first class cabin to tell her that one of her bags was missing.

The model then began shouting into her mobile phone, demanding that the person she was calling get her another flight, contact the media and call her lawyer, according to the spokeswoman. Campbell then told the captain, who was trying to calm her, to get off the plane, find her bag and bring it to her.

Campbell was eventually asked to leave the aircraft and, when she refused to, the police were called, the spokeswoman said. A police officer approached her and she used an expletive before shouting, "I paid 5,000 pounds for this seat, I've got the right to be on this plane," When the officer reached to take hold of her to remove her from the plane, she hit him twice on the forearm with her phone and screamed in his face, the spokeswoman said. A second police officer came to assist. Campbell, who was wearing platform boots with stiletto heels, kicked him in the thigh close to his groin, the prosecution said. In the ensuing struggle she kicked the first policeman in the right shin and the left thigh and spat at him, the CPS spokeswoman said.

Also during all of this foolishness, Naomi accused the officers of being racist, and while being taken away, she kicked the side of the van that came to pick her up, and abused a woman officer who attempted to search her. Assaulting an officer carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a possible fine of 5,000 pounds ($9,887 american dollars). The charge of using threatening language may be punished with a maximum fine of 2,500 pounds, while a conviction for disorderly conduct carries a fine of as much as 1,000 pounds. Campbell was ordered to attend anger-management class and perform five days of community service in January 2007 after she pleaded guilty in a New York court to assaulting her maid by throwing a mobile phone at her.

I need them to go ahead and lock this girl up already. How many times is she going to be able to abuse random people, let along officers of the law, and get away with it. I bet if this was the homegirl from around the way, her ass would have been locked up from the jump. Free on bond??? No Suuuuuh!

New Noose Law In Louisiana

A new Louisiana law has been passed that has been long overdue. On Monday, the State House of Representatives passed a bill authorized by Rep. Rickey Hardy (D-Lafayette) making it illegal to threaten someone with a noose. According to the law, you could be hit with a $5000 fine and a year behind bars if caught displaying a rope in an intimidating manor. The bill isn't completely offical yet. It still needs to go before the Senate for consideration. After the Jena-6, and University of Maryland incidents, this is finally a small measure of healing. I pray that this get's passed and that we initiate other moves to conquer all of the evil in this world.
